Jane Yolen's beautiful picture book Letting Swift River Go has been a lifelong favorite of mine. Based on true events, it tells the story of a young girl experiencing the loss of her town as it becomes unincorporated and is flooded for the construction of the Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts.
