BUILT-IN BOOKCASES
PERSONAL PROJECT
BRIEF
My wife and I moved into a historic home perfect in every way... except for a lack of space to store our books.
SOLUTION
I wanted the bookcases I built to fit so well that people would think the house had been built with them. That meant a large amount of planning, gathering original source reference, and pulling measurements from other 1920s houses. Once I knew what I wanted the cabinets to look like, I modeled them in SketchUp accurate to 1/32nd of an inch, and set to work in my cousin’s wood shop. A month later once they were installed and painted they looked identical to my initial renders, and so far not a single person has thought I built them.
